பிப்ரவரி 19, 2023 அன்று, அகில பாரதிய வித்யார்த்தி பரிஷத் (ABVP) நபர்கள் ஜவஹர்லால் நேரு பல்கலைக்கழக (JNU) மாணவர்களைத் தாக்கினர், இதில் மூலக்கூறு மருத்துவத்திற்கான சிறப்பு மையத்தின் (SCMM) PhD அறிஞர் நாசர் முகமது மொஹைதீன் கடுமையாக காயமடைந்தார்.
இந்த தாக்குதலின் போது பெரியார், மார்க்ஸ், ஜோதிபாய் பூலே போன்ற தலைவர்களின் உருவப்படங்களை ஏபிவிபியினர் உடைத்து சேதப்படுத்தினர். மாணவர்கள் மீதான இந்த தாக்குதலுக்கு தமிழக முதல்வர் உட்பட அரசியல் கட்சியினர் கடும் கண்டனம் தெரிவித்தனர். மேலும், தமிழகத்தைச் சேர்ந்த நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் ஜேஎன்யுவுக்கு வந்து தங்கள் கண்டனத்தைத் தெரிவித்து, நாசர் மற்றும் பிற மாணவர்களுக்கு ஆதரவு தெரிவித்தனர். டாக்டர். செந்தில் குமார் எம்.பி ஜே.என்.யு துணைவேந்தர் பேராசிரியர் சாந்திஸ்ரீ டி பண்டிட்டை சந்தித்து தனது கவலைகளை வெளிப்படுத்தினார் மற்றும் குற்றவாளிகள் மீது கடுமையான நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும் என்று கோரினார். 2009 செப்டம்பர் முதல் 2012 மே வரை ஜவஹர்லால் நேரு பல்கலைக்கழக நிர்வாக நீதிமன்றம் உறுப்பினராக இருந்த திருச்சி என்.சிவா திமுக எம்பியும் சந்தித்து தனது கவலைகளை தெரிவித்தார். எல்லாவற்றையும் மீறி, ஏபிவிபி நபர்கள் வளாகத்தில் சுதந்திரமாக சுற்றித் திரிந்து மாணவர்களின் பாதுகாப்பிற்கு கடுமையான அச்சுறுத்தலை ஏற்படுத்துகின்றனர்.
அன்று முதல் நாசர் மட்டும் நிறுவன ரீதியான துன்புறுத்தலுக்கு ஆளானார். வன்முறைத் தாக்குதல்கள் நடந்து ஒரு வாரத்திற்குப் பிறகு, நாசரின் மேற்பார்வையாளர், பேராசிரியர் ஷைல்ஜா சிங் அவருக்கு வழிகாட்ட மறுத்துவிட்டார். அவர் கொடுமை படுத்தப்பட்டார் மற்றும் தொடர்ந்து ஆய்வகத்தை விட்டு வெளியேற்றப்பட்டார். கண்காணிப்பாளர் மாற்றத்திற்கு மையத்தால் அமைக்கப்பட்ட குறைதீர்ப்புக் குழு ஒப்புதல் அளித்தாலும், அவருக்கு வழிகாட்டியை நியமிக்க நிறுவனம் மறுத்ததால் அவர் ஓடி ஓடி அலைய வேண்டியிருந்தது. ஆனால் SCMM இன் தலைவர் நாசருக்கு மேற்பார்வையாளரை நியமிக்கும் பொறுப்பை மறுத்து, நாசர் தனது Ph.D ஐ தொடர முடியாது என்று அக்டோபர் 4, 2023 அன்று கடிதம் அளித்துள்ளார்.
தூத்துக்குடியைச் சேர்ந்த நாசர், அண்ணா பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் பயோடெக்னாலஜியில் எம்டெக் படித்து, 2022 ஜனவரி முதல் ஜேஎன்யுவில் மூலக்கூறு மருத்துவத்திற்கான சிறப்பு மையத்தில் (SCMM) மூலக்கூறு மருத்துவத்தில் PhD இல் சேர்ந்தார். 2022 ஆம் ஆண்டில் ஹார்வர்ட் மருத்துவப் பள்ளி நடத்திய இரண்டு ஆன்லைன் திட்டங்களை அவர் வெற்றிகரமாக முடித்தார், 75% உதவித்தொகை மூலம் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டார் மற்றும் புகழ்பெற்ற அறிவியல் இதழ்களில் மூன்று கல்விக் கட்டுரைகளை வெளியிட்டார்.
ஜேஎன்யு தமிழ் மாணவர் சங்கத்தின் (JNUTSA ) தலைவர் நாசர். பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் மேம்பட்ட பிரதிநிதித்துவத்திற்காக வாதிடும் ரிசர்வேஷன் கிளப்பை அவர் இணைந்து நிறுவினார்.
அம்பேத்கர், பெரியார் மற்றும் மார்க்ஸ் கொள்கைகளை முன்னிறுத்தும் ஒரு மத சிறுபான்மையினர் பெயர் கொண்ட தமிழ் மாணவர் என்பதாலேயே நாசர் இப்போது ஜேஎன்யுவில் குறிவைக்கப்படுகிறார்.
ஜேஎன்யு துணைவேந்தர், ஜேஎன்யுவில் உள்ள கல்வியாளர்கள் மற்றும் விஞ்ஞானிகள் மற்றும் தமிழ்நாடு மற்றும் டெல்லியில் உள்ள அரசியல் தலைவர்கள், அறிவியல் ஆற்றல் கொண்ட உறுதியான ஆராய்ச்சியாளரான நாசர் தனது பிஎச்டியைத் எந்த தடையும் இல்லாமல் முழு சுதந்திரத்துடன் தொடர உறுதிசெய்யுமாறு கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறோம்.

On February 19, 2023, Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) persons attacked Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students in which Nazar Mohammad Mohaideen a PhD scholar from the Special Center for Molecular Medicine (SCMM) was severely injured.
During this attack, portraits of leaders like Periyar, Marx, Jyotibai Phule were broken and damaged viciously by ABVP. Many political parties including the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu expressed their strong condemnation on this attack on students. Moreover, Members of Parliament from Tamil Nadu came to JNU to express their condemnation and showed support for Nazar and other students. Dr. Senthil Kumar MP met JNU Vice Chancellor Prof. Shantishree D Pandit to express his concerns and demanded strict action be taken against the perpetrators. Trichy N. Siva DMK MP who was a member of the Court of the Jawaharlal Nehru University from September 2009 to May 2012 also met and conveyed his concerns. Despite everything, the ABVP persons roam freely in the campus and pose a serious threat to the safety of the students.
Only Nazar has been subjected to institutional harassment since then. One week after the violent attacks, Nazar’s supervisor, Prof. Shailja Singh refused to guide him. He was subjected to ill treatment and continuously pushed to leave the lab. Even though the grievance committee setup by the centre endorsed for a change of supervisor, he had to run from pillar to post as the institution refused to appoint a guide for him. But the chairperson of SCMM denied his responsibility to appoint a supervisor to Nazar and has issued a letter on Oct 4, 2023 that he cannot continue his Ph.D.
Nazar, hails from Thoothukudi and did his MTech in Biotechnology at Anna University and joined for PhD at JNU from Jan 2022 in Molecular Medicine in the Special Center for Molecular Medicine (SCMM). He successfully completed two online programs conducted by Harvard Medical School in 2022, selected through 75% scholarship and published three academic papers in reputed science journals.
Nazar is the President of the JNU Tamil Students Association (JNUTSA). He co-founded the Reservation Club, which advocates for better representation in the university.
Nazar is being targeted now at JNU only because of the fact he is a Tamil student with a name which is linked to the religious minority and who advocates the ideals of Ambedkar, Periyar and Marx.
We appeal to the Vice-Chancellor JNU, the academics and scientists at JNU and the political leaders in TamilNadu and Delhi to make sure that Nazar, a committed researacher with scientific potential, can continue his Ph.D. with full freedom without any obstacles.
